We all know the importance of parents helping children at home with homework, reading, and other academic activities.
Unfortunately, somewhere between 30 to 45 percent of all children do not have access to even the most basic level of academic support at home. At the same time, schools are being forced to cut back on supplemental reading programs while increasing teacher workloads and class sizes. Across the country, 30 percent of students are failing the reading test. In California, almost half of the students cannot even read at a basic level.
What if the school or classroom library could actually talk to the students at home and help them with reading, writing, mathematics, and science?
The Listen and Achieve Library System makes this possible.
Once all of the parent permission forms have been completed, the student can simply call the school library. When the library system answers it automatically checks the school or classroom library records for that student. It knows what books the student has checked out and tells the student, "I see that you have checked out the following books ..... Please tell me which one you would like to read now and we can read it together". The Listen and Achieve Library System will then read the story. The student reads out-loud along with the audio recording while moving their fingers across the text. This is exactly the same Guided Reading process most teachers use in the classroom.
After completing each book, the student may be asked a series of questions to assess comprehension and current reading level. This is exactly the same sequence performed in most classrooms.
Children love using the Listen and Achieve Library System, and teachers love the academic progress the students have made.
Please note that due to copyright restrictions, this system is only available for educational activities and is restricted to schools, libraries, and approved after-school programs.
A sample system is available for teachers and school administrators at the following
phone number: 1-206-279-5279 Note: Since you are not an enrolled student, the system will not be able to access your individual library records, but will create a list of sample stories to enable you to evaluate the sequences as if you had checked out those books yourself. Teachers can also create custom lessons, sequences and quizzes if requested.
Each Listen and Achieve Library System is custom designed to meet the specific needs of the classroom or school.
